A bronze coin from rebuilt Corinth, from the reign of Marcus Aurelius in the 2nd century. The city, destroyed by the Roman army in 146 BC, was rebuilt as a Roman colony by Caesar in 44 BC. Even under Roman rule, the minting of coins by Greek cities did not cease, and autonomous bronze coinage continued for 400 years until the 3rd century AD. Silver was dominated by the Roman denarius, leaving bronze for the cities—this was the state of coinage in the province of Greece.
