2 Euro, Greece (Europa)

A Greek two-euro coin issued in 2002, the first year of euro cash circulation. The design is "The Abduction of Europa by the Bull (Zeus)," based on a 3rd-century mosaic unearthed in Sparta, and the creator of the national side's design is the sculptor Georgios Stamatopoulos. The composition features a Greek coin bearing the myth that gave Europe its name. The drachma came to an end at the legal conversion rate of one euro = 340.750 drachmas, and ceased to be legal tender on February 28, 2002. Even if the name disappears, the face of the currency survives.
