A tax levied on one year's income. It is often structured in brackets, with higher rates applying to higher levels of income.

There is a portion deducted from salary in advance (withholding tax) and a portion that is settled at the end of the year. ⚠ It cannot be simply stated as "a certain percentage of annual income." Because the rate changes for each bracket, you should check your own bracket.
