  1. In 2023, there were 33.876 million owner-occupied dwellings, with a home ownership rate of 60.9%, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from 2018. Over the 30 years from 1993 to 2023, the rate has remained roughly flat at around 60%.
  2. Rented dwellings numbered 19.462 million, accounting for 35.0% of all dwellings. Of these, 15.684 million (28.2%) were privately owned rented dwellings.
