  1. In 2023, there were 33.876 million owner-occupied dwellings, with a home ownership rate of 60.9%, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from 2018. The rate has remained in the 60% range for the 30 years since 1993.
  2. Rented dwellings numbered 19.462 million, accounting for 35.0% of all dwellings. Of these, 15.684 million (28.2%) were privately owned rented dwellings.
