Pension Glossary: M section, Macroeconomic Slide.

Japan Pension Service.

Claims Supported by This Source

  1. Pension amounts normally increase in line with wage and price growth, but during an adjustment period, the growth is suppressed below that of wages and prices to reflect declines in the pension system's supporting capacity and increases in life expectancy. This is called the macroeconomic slide.
  2. If wage and price growth is low and applying the slide would reduce the nominal amount, the adjustment is limited to bringing growth to zero, and the nominal pension amount is not reduced. If wage and price growth is negative, no adjustment is made.
