Claims Supported by This Source

  1. The court Jew as an institution was "a feature of the absolutist state, especially in Central Europe, from the end of the 16th century onward."
  2. Jacob Bassevi of Prague (1570–1634) was outstanding as a mint contractor.
  3. Samuel Oppenheimer and Samson Wertheimer built their careers at the imperial court in Vienna.
  4. Joseph Süss Oppenheimer was the court factor for the Duke of Württemberg and dealt with many rulers.
  5. They supplied rulers with "commercial credit or ready cash … foodstuffs, cloth, and weapons for the army."
